A Message From Our Members: Roanoke Regional Commission Issues RFP

ATTENTION CONSULTANTS: As a member of the Roanoke Regional Commission, member university Virginia Tech is taking part in an RFP process to solicit proposals from consultants specializing in broadband planning and deployment. Interested parties should visit for more information. The deadline for submission is September 16.

A coalition of regional organizations involved in planning and economic development in the Roanoke Region of Virginia. (The Cities of Roanoke and Salem, and the County of Roanoke) is soliciting proposals for an analysis of fiber infrastructure to determine deficiencies and potential solutions to address said deficiencies. Stimulus-funded rural fiber projects have been funded that are bringing additional fiber backbone capacity to the region has generated interest in a community-wide analysis of the current state of fiber capacity in the Roanoke Region.



This regional project is funded through local public and private resources. The project will be implemented by a project management team, consisting of individuals from participating entities. The team will provide oversight and direction to the consulting firm selected.

All project activities must be completed no later than December 31, 2011.

The RFP was released by Roanoke Valley-Alleghany Regional Commission soliciting proposals to assist with the analysis of broadband and fiber services and opportunities in the Roanoke Region of Virginia.  The full RFP in online at .  Copies are also available by contacting Mr. Matt Miller, P.O.
